What is the Peak Walk?

Step out of the top station at Scex Rouge (2,971 m) and the Peak Walk is where everyone heads first. The suspension bridge is 107 m long and 80 cm wide, and it crosses from the View Point to the main summit of Scex Rouge, 5 m higher, so you walk very slightly uphill on the way over.

Glacier 3000 says it is the only suspension bridge in the world that links two mountain peaks. Stand on it, with the glacier below and summits on every side, and it is easy to see why the bridge has become the picture of the place.

Opening times and season

The Peak Walk is open all year, weather permitting, right through the winter season from 7 November 2026 to 30 April 2027. The whole site closes for maintenance from 19 October to 6 November 2026.

On a normal day the bridge opens at 09:15 and closes at about 16:20; check on the day. Strong wind is the usual reason for a closure, as gusts over 80 km/h can stop the lifts. The live openings page on glacier3000.ch is updated every morning after the mountain has been inspected.

What can you see from the bridge?

On a clear day the view runs a long way. Glacier 3000 names the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc, the Eiger, the Mönch and the Jungfrau among the peaks in sight, and says the panorama takes in 24 summits over 4,000 m.

Closer to hand you look down on the glacier, where the Glacier Walk and the dog-sled trails run, and across to the Quille du Diable (2,908 m) beside Refuge l'Espace. The Dôme (3,016 m) and the summit of Les Diablerets (3,209 m) rise above the ice.

Is the Peak Walk scary?

That depends on you, so here are the facts. The deck is 80 cm wide and 107 m from end to end, and the two ends are only 5 m apart in height. It is open to the air, crossing a gap between two rocky summits at almost 3,000 m.

If you would rather not cross, the panoramic rooftop terrace of the Scex Rouge building, reached by lift, gives you the view from solid ground.

Reaching the bridge takes about 100 steps, so it is not step-free. The cable car and the Scex Rouge building, with its lifts, restaurants and rooftop terrace, do suit people with reduced mobility, and their companion rides the cable car free.

Tips for photos and timing

The first cable car leaves Col du Pillon at 09:00 and runs every 20 minutes. The ride takes about 15 minutes with one change at Cabane, so the earliest arrivals reach the bridge soon after it opens. Glacier 3000 suggests arriving at the base by 15:00; the last ascent is at 16:20 in summer and 16:00 in winter.

For the classic shot, photograph the bridge from one end with the far summit behind it, then cross and turn back for the reverse view with the glacier below. Check the webcams on glacier3000.ch before you set off: in cloud the bridge is still there, but the 4,000 m peaks will not be.

Dress for the summit, not the valley. In winter that means warm boots, a warm jacket, gloves, a hat, sunglasses and sun cream; in summer, mountain boots, a windproof jacket, sunglasses and sun cream.
