Is Glacier 3000 open today?
Wind is the usual reason for a closure: gusts over 80 km/h can stop the lifts. The operator's live openings page lists every lift, trail and restaurant with its status and the time it was last updated, and each morning around 08:30, after the mountain has been inspected, it publishes the day's forecast.
Look at that page and the webcams on glacier3000.ch before you leave home, and if you have a few days to choose from, pick the clearest and calmest.

The best time of day to go
Go early. The ticket office opens at 08:45 and the first cabin leaves at 09:00, which gives you the whole day at the top; buying online beforehand saves the ticket-office queue. Early starters can also book the Peak Brunch at Le 3, served from 09:15.
If you start later, the operator's advice is to be at Col du Pillon by 15:00 so there is time for the activities before the last cabin down.
How long to allow
The ride takes about 15 minutes each way. Crossing the Peak Walk, taking in the views and stopping for a meal fits comfortably into three to four hours. The Glacier Walk to Refuge l'Espace takes about an hour each way, so add two hours if you plan to walk it.
Coming by public transport in winter, remember the bus: the last practical departures from Col du Pillon are at 17:09 towards Les Diablerets and 17:41 towards Gstaad.
