Is Glacier 3000 worth it? What CHF 95 gets you

On a clear day, yes for most visitors. The CHF 95 adult return takes you up two cable cars to Scex Rouge at 2,971 m and includes the Peak Walk suspension bridge, the Ice Express chairlift, the Snow Fun Park and the Glacier Walk, with views that Glacier 3000 says reach the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc. With a Swiss Travel Pass, GA or Half Fare card the return is CHF 48, and children under 6 ride free.

What you get for CHF 95

The ticket is a return trip in two stages: from Col du Pillon (1,546 m) to the Cabane mid-station (2,525 m), then on to Scex Rouge (2,971 m), about 15 minutes in all. That alone lifts you more than 1,400 m above the road pass.

The price also covers the main things to do at the top, so most visitors pay nothing more unless they eat, ride the summer Alpine Coaster or book a husky sled. The Peak Walk, Glacier Walk and Snow Fun Park are open all year, weather permitting.

The view is the main reason to go

Glacier 3000 names the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc, the Eiger, the Mönch and the Jungfrau among the peaks you can see from the top, and says the panorama takes in 24 summits over 4,000 m. Closer in, the glacier spreads out below Scex Rouge towards the Quille du Diable (2,908 m) and the summit of Les Diablerets (3,209 m).

The Peak Walk puts you right in that view. Glacier 3000 says it is the only suspension bridge in the world linking two mountain peaks, and crossing it, with the glacier beneath you, is the moment most people come for.

Who it suits best

Families do well here: children under 6 ride free, ages 6 to 15 pay CHF 48, and children with an SBB Junior or Accompanied Child card travel free. In summer the Alpine Coaster, which Glacier 3000 calls the highest rail toboggan run in the world, takes riders from the age of 3 with someone aged 9 or over.

Non-skiers get a full winter day out, because the Peak Walk, Glacier Walk and Snow Fun Park stay open through the season from 7 November 2026 to 30 April 2027, and husky sled rides start in November. Skiers get runs from 3,000 m down to 1,300 m, including the 8 km Red Run.

Rail travellers win too. With a Swiss Travel Pass, GA or Half Fare card the return costs CHF 48, half the full fare.

When it is less worth it

The view depends on the weather. On a day of low cloud you still get the bridge and the snow, but not the 4,000 m peaks, so look at the webcams on glacier3000.ch before you set off. Gusts over 80 km/h can stop the lifts, and the live openings page is updated each morning after the mountain has been inspected.

Plan around this rather than gamble: under the operator's general terms, tickets are not refunded or extended for bad weather. If your dates are flexible, pick the clearest, calmest day you have. Babies under 15 months are not taken up, and the operator advises against the trip in pregnancy.

How to get the most for your money

Use a rail card if you have one: the Swiss Travel Pass, GA and Half Fare card all bring the return down to CHF 48. In winter the Magic Pass is valid for walkers as well as skiers from 1 November 2026 to 30 April 2027. Gstaad's tourist office says the Gstaad Card, which your host gives you, brings 20% off Glacier 3000, so ask at the ticket office.

In winter the bus from Les Diablerets or Reusch to Col du Pillon is free with a Glacier 3000 ticket. Arrive early: the first cabin leaves at 09:00, and the earlier you go up, the more of the day you have at the top. Online and ticket-office prices are the same, and cabins run every 20 minutes, so buying ahead simply saves the queue.

Return cable car ticket from Col du Pillon to Scex Rouge, including the Peak Walk, Ice Express and Glacier Walk; you make your own way to Col du Pillon.

Departs from Col du Pillon (no transport) · Ticket only, no fixed departure; cabins every 20 minutes

How long to spend at the top

The ride takes about 15 minutes each way. Three to four hours at the top is enough to cross the Peak Walk, take in the views and stop for a meal. The Glacier Walk to Refuge l'Espace takes about an hour each way, so add two hours if you want to walk it.

The operator asks visitors to be at Col du Pillon by 15:00. The last cabin up is at 16:00 in winter and 16:20 in summer.

How it compares with Jungfraujoch, Titlis and Rochers de Naye

If you are choosing between Swiss summits, each has its own strengths. Jungfraujoch is higher and reached from Interlaken by train and the Eiger Express; Titlis, above Engelberg, is the easy choice from Lucerne and Zurich; Rochers de Naye is a cogwheel ride straight up from Montreux. Our side-by-side guides compare heights, journey times, prices and what each is best for.

Making a day of it

Glacier 3000 is quick to reach from the road: the cable car starts at Col du Pillon, 8 minutes by car from Les Diablerets and 20 minutes from Gstaad, according to the operator. That makes it easy to pair with Gstaad, Montreux or Lake Geneva in a single day.

If you would rather not drive, several coach day trips from Geneva, Lausanne and Montreux stop at Glacier 3000. Check whether the cable car is included in the option you pick, as several tours sell it as an optional extra.

Questions

Is Glacier 3000 worth the money?

For most visitors on a clear day, yes. The CHF 95 adult return includes two cable cars to 2,971 m, the Peak Walk, the Ice Express chairlift, the Snow Fun Park and the Glacier Walk, so there is little else to pay for at the top.

Is Glacier 3000 worth it on a cloudy day?

Less so, because cloud hides the distant peaks. Check the webcams on glacier3000.ch before you go, as tickets are not refunded for bad weather under the operator's terms.

Is Glacier 3000 good value with a Swiss Travel Pass?

Yes. Swiss Travel Pass, GA and Half Fare holders pay CHF 48 for the return instead of CHF 95, which halves the cost of the trip.

Is half a day enough for Glacier 3000?

Yes for the highlights: three to four hours covers the Peak Walk, the views and a meal. Add about two hours if you also want to do the Glacier Walk there and back.

What is the best time of year to visit Glacier 3000?

It depends what you want. The Peak Walk and Glacier Walk are open all year; summer adds the Alpine Coaster, while winter, from 7 November 2026, brings skiing and husky sled rides.
