Geneva: Glacier 3000 - High Level Experience and Montreux
Long coach day from Geneva to Glacier 3000 with a stop in Montreux; the cable car is shown as an option.
Departs from Geneva bus station · 10 to 11 hours
Organised day trips to Glacier 3000 leave from Geneva, Lausanne and Montreux, with private tours from Zurich, and last from about 6 to 14 hours. The question to ask before you book is whether the cable car is included: most coach trips sell it as an option, and the operator's adult return costs CHF 95 (CHF 48 for children aged 6 to 15 and Swiss Travel Pass holders). Going on your own is easy too: about 2 hours 30 minutes by train from Geneva and 1 hour 25 minutes from Montreux.

Often not. Most coach day trips from Geneva, Lausanne and Montreux list the cable car, the Peak Walk and the chairlift as options you choose when booking, so the headline price may cover only the coach and the guide. If the option is left out, you buy the return at Col du Pillon: CHF 95 for adults, CHF 48 for children aged 6 to 15 and for holders of a Swiss Travel Pass, GA or Half Fare card, and free for under-6s.
A few trips do build it in, notably a Geneva High Level Experience with free time in Montreux and a private Zurich day that adds Château de Chillon and the Lavaux vineyards. Before you pay, open the listing and look for the cable car in the options or the list of what is included.
Every trip below goes up to Col du Pillon, the valley station at 1,546 m, and most pair the mountain with time on Lake Geneva. The longer Geneva days spend a good part of the morning on the road: the drive is about 133 km each way.

Geneva has the widest choice. The classic is a coach day of 10 to 11 hours from the bus station with a stop in Montreux, where the cable car is shown as an option. A version of the same day of about 10 hours has the cable car and Peak Walk built in, and a shorter Riviera trip of 6 to 10 hours adds free time in Montreux, again with the cable car as an extra.
There is also a Geneva tour built around the Alpine Coaster and the Glacier Walk. The coaster is a summer ride, usually from June to October depending on the snow, and costs CHF 9 a go on site.

Zurich is a long way for one day: about 3 hours 24 minutes by train, or around three hours by car. The organised option is a private day of about 14 hours with hotel pickup that includes the cable car and Peak Walk, entry to Château de Chillon and a Lavaux wine tasting.
From Bern the train takes about 2 hours 22 minutes via Gstaad, which makes a self-guided day realistic. From either city, a night near the mountain turns a rush into a relaxed visit.

Without a tour you pay only for transport and the cable car. On a sample January 2027 weekday, the 07:05 train from Geneva reaches Col du Pillon at 09:35, changing at Aigle and Les Diablerets, and the 07:48 from Lausanne arrives at the same time. From Gstaad, PostBus 180 takes about 30 minutes and is free with the Gstaad Card.
Cable cars run from 09:00 every 20 minutes and you cannot book a set departure, so you simply go up when you arrive. Prices are the same online and at the ticket office; buying ahead just saves the queue.

Not always. Most coach trips from Geneva, Lausanne and Montreux sell the cable car as an option, so check the listing. If it is not included, the adult return costs CHF 95 at Col du Pillon.
Coach days from Geneva last between 6 and 11 hours depending on the tour, and most include free time in Montreux. The drive itself is about 133 km each way.
The coach day from Place de l'Eurovision in Montreux takes about 6 hours, with the cable car as an option you add. From Geneva, the Riviera trip runs 6 to 10 hours with free time in Montreux.
Yes. Trains and PostBus 180 reach Col du Pillon from Geneva in about 2 hours 30 minutes, from Montreux in about 1 hour 25 and from Gstaad in about 30 minutes. You then buy the cable car ticket online or at the ticket office.
Compare carefully: with a Swiss Travel Pass, GA or Half Fare card the cable car return costs CHF 48 instead of CHF 95. If a tour sells the cable car as an option, weigh its price against that reduced fare.
