When is the Alpine Coaster open?
Only in summer. The coaster opens from early June and usually runs until October, depending on how much snow is lying at 3,000 m. It runs daily from 09:15 to 16:00, weather permitting.
If you are visiting between November and May, the Peak Walk, the Glacier Walk and the Snow Fun Park are open all year, and dog sledding takes over from November. The coaster's status is shown on glacier3000.ch, so check it on the morning of your visit.
A ride costs CHF 9 per person, the same for adults and children. Five rides cost CHF 36, so the fifth is effectively free.
Coaster tickets are sold on site at the start of the ride, so there is nothing to book in advance. You still need a cable car ticket to get up to it.

Age and height rules
Riders can go alone from their 9th birthday, provided they are at least 140 cm tall. Children from the age of 3 can ride with a person aged 9 or over.
The seatbelt is compulsory, and riders keep 25 m from the sled in front. For the cable car itself, children under 6 travel free, but babies under 15 months are not taken up because of the altitude, and Glacier 3000 recommends waiting until a child is 2.

Making a day of it
A run is quick, so build the coaster into a wider visit. Ride up from Col du Pillon (the cable car runs every 20 minutes from 09:00 and takes about 15 minutes), cross the Peak Walk and have lunch in the Scex Rouge building. Finish with the coaster before the last descent, which is at 16:50 in summer.
Dress for the summit: Glacier 3000 advises mountain boots, a windproof jacket, sunglasses and sun cream in summer.
You need a return cable car ticket from Col du Pillon to Scex Rouge, which also includes the Peak Walk, the Ice Express chairlift, the Snow Fun Park and the Glacier Walk. It costs CHF 95 for adults and CHF 48 for children aged 6 to 15; under-6s travel free. Check the price for your date in the official shop.
